The AFC Asian Cup 2023 Opening Ceremony took place at Lusail Stadium in Doha, Qatar.
A massive show blended storytelling and modern technology. The concept was built around “The Lost Chapter” of Kalila and Dimna tale: a man wandering through the desert, guided by two jackals and 24 animals symbolizing the participating nations.
Stage design and all visuals were created by Sila Sveta.
The Mirrors
At the heart of the stage were five large LED screens, aka Mirrors, representing different regions of Asia: Western, Central, Southern, Eastern, and Southeastern.
Each mirror played a unique role, displaying synchronized content or individual narratives that metaphorically represented the protagonist’s journey. One of the most striking moments featured close-up visuals of the animals' eyes, creating an intense and symbolic connection with the audience.

The Stage
The Dunes and Mirrors, central to the stage’s look, were carefully designed to fit within the venue's technical restrictions — each piece of the decor had to adhere to strict size limits for transport and assembly.
Additionally, we ensured the Dunes were functional for the performers to move across, carefully balancing height variations and incorporating areas suited for choreography.

The FOP Projection
The Dunes, covered with magnolia petals, designed as a symbol of unity between Western and Eastern Asia, were brought to life through projections. The projections enhanced the emotional depth of the performance, enveloping the audience in the vast desert journey and its hidden treasures.

PIXMOB Brilliance
A highlight of the ceremony was the PIXMOB integration, a feature that turned the audience into an interactive part of the show. Custom-designed content synchronized with the music and the Mirrors visuals. The result was a vibrant experience where every spectator became a glowing element of the story.

The Inflatable Jackals
The inflatable jackals, Kalila and Dimna, made a dramatic appearance during the ceremony’s peak moment. Their design began with AI-generated concepts, which were then refined by our modeler to align with the narrative and technical requirements. The sculptures were brought to life exactly as envisioned, creating a memorable highlight in the show.
On-Site Challenges
We worked closely with teams from PIXMOB, Creative Technology, and the lighting designers to bring the show to life piece by piece. Every element was synchronized and fine-tuned, ensuring seamless integration of visuals, lighting, and projections.
What made this process truly remarkable was the way we operated as one cohesive team, aligning our efforts to deliver a unified experience. As CG Supervisor, I played a key role in assembling and refining the content, ensuring every detail met the creative and technical vision of the ceremony.
